Restaurants of Macau - Indian Garden

As promised, I will begin reviewing Indian Restaurants in Macau starting from today.

I will start with the restaurant "Indian Garden". Indian Garden Macau is part of a chain of restaurants operated on the franchisee model in China. You can find the entire list of Indian Garden restaurants in China by clicking on this link.

Located 27 Rua Seng Tou Orquidea Edificio, Nova Taipa Garden - Taipa, Indian Garden is one of the best Indian restaurants in Macau.

The menu is quite comprehensive and representative of Indian cuisine starting from the Kashmiri Pulao to Kerala's Avial. Just looking at the menu makes your mouth drool. Unfortunately, my all time favorite items on the menu like Idli, Vada and Kothu Parota (YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY sluurrp .... sluurrp...) are not available. But there are other items available like various varieties of Dosa available that mostly make up :-).

On a serious note, this is an excellent restaurant that both Indians and Non-Indians can try.

For Indians, this is an extremely good place for both North Indian and South Indian food. The Naan and the Paratha items are very good. The curries are probably the best you will find in this region. And the Biriyani is so good. And quite authentic, because for those who do not know, biriyani in this part of the world is nothing but the Indian Pulao. And for a definite lover of spicy Hyderabadi Dum Biriyani this is a shame. The meat dishes, I have heard (I am a veggie) are pretty good too. And the food is also Halal.

For Non Indians, this is probably the best place to experience some real good Indian food. The staff speak Cantonese and English and probably some Mandarin (I am not sure) and can definately help choose your dishes. You can tell the level of spice you would prefer in your food. The Prawn Bajji(or pakora) is supposed to be very good. And do not forget to order the most famous dish of the restaurant - roast chicken cooked with herbs and Indian masala and served crackling on a wooden platter, right out of the oven. I will also recommend the Biriyani, which is very good. Finish your meal with a desert, I would recommend Kulfi that is Indian version of ice cream

The prices are very reasonable, and will cost at current rates 60-70 MOP per person (assuming that you eat like one). The interior design is good with some very nice ivory carving on each table. There is this huge idol of Shiva, the Hindu god in the first floor. The lighting is nice too. There is a glass window separating the seating section of the restaurant from the kitchen. So you can actually see your food being cooked.

There are a couple of things that I think has lots of scope for improvement. The service is good but it takes some time for your order to arrive. The restaurant is some times under staffed impacting service. Also, there might be difficulty in accommodating large groups as the seating space is quite inadequate. It is not uncommon to find some patrons waiting outside for to find a table.

Indian Garden Macau also caters to parties and tourist groups and may arrange buffets on request. It currently accepst Visa or Mastercard and MOP or HKD currency.

On the whole, this is a decent place and one of my favorite.

And finally for those who do not know what Kashmiri Pulao is, I quote quite shamelessly from the internet -

"Kashmiri Pulao is a delicious and decadent rice dish. It combines fragrant long grain Basmati rice with aromatic spices, dried fruits and nuts. The use of saffron adds an extra special layer of flavor and heavenly aroma. Saffron is considered the world’s most exotic spice and is also the most expensive, so use it sparingly. A little definitely goes a long way.

There are many variations to this dish. You could try different varieties of dried fruits and nuts. You can also add pieces of fresh fruit (such as cherries, green apples, pineapple…) just before serving."

On this tasty note, i will wrap up this edition of RESTAURANT REVIEW. Do post your comments !!!
